Our current projects to develop methodologies:

  • Strategies for sustainable local development in river basins, based on building an economy of the community and experience in processes of community of learning.
  • Mapping and environmental zoning in participatory watershed
  • Participatory planning for the social management of water, of conservation and sanitation and environment.

Social Technologies for Water Management Project

s1Result of the integration of experience of public institutions Catarina on technologies for sustainable use of water resources and methodologies for planning and management of watersheds in Santa Catarina, with focus on diagnosis, assessment, treatment, prevention and reduction of water pollution, as well as models and strategies for conservation of nature, with social participation.

The Project is based on the idea of governance of water with the following assumptions:s2

  • Economy of experience, incorporating the state of the art technologies and methodologies worked for the institutions and implementation of local projects considering the national and international contexts.
  • Community of learning, pedagogical strategy for social integration of technologies and methodologies for the use and sustainable management of water resources.
  • Local management, as a strategy to empower the community to increase its capacity for local management, through construction of municipal laws, agencies, political and social management plans and local adjustment of conduct in a sustainable local development.

International Project for Environmental Education – PIEA

The International Project for Environmental Education (PIEA – Brasil) GTHidro was developed in partnership with the Escola Estadual Manoel Dutra Bessa of Urubici and is part of an International Environmental Education Project, led by Université de Moncton, Canada, which also involved Canada, Romania, Tunisia, Guinea and Colombia.

The objective of this research was to develop a project with students from elementary school to see how children construct and find solutions to a local environmental problem, and help them to improve the resolution of environmental problems. Children were invited to meet and examine their local environment and then to solve a specific environmental problem with the aid of expert scientists.

Guarani Aquifer Project

Guarani Aquifer occupies a total area of 1.2 million km ² and is located in the center west region of South America and is inserted within the four countries, which were: Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The preservation of groundwater is vital to humanity. It is therefore extremely important conhecimenro the dynamics of the population aqüíiferos.

s3Partnerships between institutions conducted a research project that deals with the identification and characterization of Zone of the Aquifer Recharge Direct and study and proposal of conservation. The objective was to produce, collect and systematize information on the Guarani Aquifer and disseminate them with the society and local communities, covering 44 counties of SC.

The project was structured in the following methodological strategies: literature search, studies technology and production of thematic maps, and connectivity with joint education and research institutions, public organizations, private and social, working on the issue, disseminating them to the society and local communities as well as educational inclusion in schools and town halls.

Project Y-Guarani

s4Application of social technologies for sanitation, alternative, to improve health and quality of life for all indigenous community Kuri’y, located in Biguaçu – Santa Catarina.

In the indigenous community Kuri’y conditions of sanitation are not very favorable. There is no place for the final disposal of waste, both solid and human waste, exposing the whole community to the risk of disease, carried by water or by vectors attracted by garbage, as well as contaminating water resources for human use and consumption.

This project presents solutions to the problem of decentralized sanitation in the community Kuri’y that fit the reality of the community, causing low-impact cultural and environmental, by using alternative techniques.

Justifications:

  1. Social: Improvement in quality of life and health of the community
  2. Environmental: Preservation of local water resources
  3. Legal: is based on the 9433 Federal Law of 1997, establishing the National Water Resources Policy.

Ecology and the Mountain People Project

The Ecology of Mountains and People in Santa Catarina is a project developed in partnership with the Civil Society Organization of Public Interest – Institute Brasilis Autopoiesis.

This project is in accordance with the principles established by UNESCO in celebration of International Year of Mountains, signed in 2002, and has as main objective the empowerment of communities in general saw catarinenses5, highlighting its history and allowing the construction of a culture of peace and sustainability, through the dissemination of educational information available scientific research on the lines of GTHIDRO. s5It is expected this project, provide a contribution to the mountain communities Santa Catarina general, enabling them to build a new reality, that of sustainable living.

This project has counted with the support and participation of the PMU, and the other social organizations in the local community. It also has the support of FATMA and the Legislative Assembly of the State of Santa Catarina.

The scientific basis for the realization of this project is the Model PEDS – Strategic Planning for Sustainable Development, authored by Prof.. Dr. Daniel José da Silva (1998) and the concept of empowerment of communities. This project is included in the methodology transdisciplinary Basarab Nicolescu, which is based on the theory of complexity of Edgar Morin, allowing transit in different dimensions of reality of the mountain communities of Santa Catarina.

Waste Management Pilot Project of Suinocultura with Focus on Integrated and Efficient Use of Water

Given the need to solve the environmental problems of swine production, the sustainable integrated water resources since 1992 to UFSC / EMBRAPA / EPAGRI studies are developing research to support the development of this sector to the environmental quality.

Existing initiatives in research related to the treatment of swine manure to not focus on the implementation of processes of treatment and recovery of waste to the integration and efficiency of water use, or the environmental education, where there are these projects is methodologically treated with the community.

s6Three conceptions of treatment systems are idealized and are being implemented in the watersheds of the Rivers Owl / Bonito and Rio Cachoerinhas, tributaries of the River North Arm – Santa Catarina – Brazil, in two properties, one small and one medium-sized ( matrices with 50 and 100 respectively) that represent the reality of the pig farmers in the region.

Are also evaluated in animal feed systems, control and loss of water in the premises of rearing pigs in order to reduce consumption and reuse of the property, to manage the production of animals on properties pilots.

Center for Dissemination of Information for Management of River Basins

The CEDIBH is a project that is based on the proposal of UNESCO and its program “Man and Biosphere” in 1980, for the development of activities geared to the integrated treatment of environmental issues through the production of knowledge, dissemination and training of persons of information. We hope with this project, provide a unique contribution to the communities within river basins and their legal representatives, contributing to the protection of water resources of the State of Santa Catarina and its sustainable use.

  • Specific
    • Disseminate information regarding the law and participatory management of the Committees and Communities of River Basins in Santa Catarina.
    • Providing a service to virtual and interactive between students and researchers in the field and sociedade.s7
